As Maya is picking up Brittney and Brianna from school, tears are falling down her face, and she says out loud, “I am failing as a mother”. Even with her full time job she struggles to provide enough food for her girls. The daily dreaded moment comes when the girls announce they are hungry and want to know what they are having for dinner. Again, Maya fakes a big smile as she answers “popcorn, you love popcorn!”. Immediately she hears sighs of disappointment.  Maya knows her girls will go to sleep hungry, as they have many nights before, and their grumbling stomachs are a constant reminder of her feelings of failure.

Maya is not a failure. She is doing the best she can to provide for her family. Magic City Harvest collaborates with 30 feeding agencies donating food so families like Maya’s have access to the food they need.

Mission: End Waste, End Hunger

Since 1995 Magic City Harvest, the only perishable food recovery program of greater Birmingham, works to alleviate food insecurity, malnutrition and food waste through the free distribution of donated excess food to programs feeding those in need.

In 2020, MCH collected 466,180 pounds of food which provided 559,416 meals to the growing number of hungry people in the Magic City.

Your support means this important work can continue.

• $1000 provides 5,555 meals

• $500 provides 2,777 meals

• $100 provides 555 meals

Magic City Harvest distributes to 30 community feeding agencies across the Birmingham area. These agencies collectively provide over 1800 meals a day and will serve our donated food that night to their hungry neighbors.
