As Maya is picking up Brittney and Brianna from school, she thinks “I am failing as a mother”. Even with her full time job she struggles to provide enough food for her girls. The daily dreaded moment comes when the girls announce they are hungry and want to know what they are having for dinner. Again, Maya fakes a big smile as she answers “popcorn, you love popcorn!”. Immediately she hears sighs of disappointment. Maya knows her girls will go to sleep hungry, as they have many nights before, and their grumbling stomachs are a constant reminder of her feelings of failure.
